Faith-based YOUTH CENTRES, SHELTERS, SUPPORT PROGRAMS, GROUP HOMES …
Check out what some of these great programs are doing. Their resource of experience in working with high risk young people is rich. There’s so much we can learn from each other.
Anchored Warriors (based in Calgary, AB): Longs to see Aboriginal youth rise up to become strong leaders who are equipped to build, mentor, and disciple youth in their own communities.
Cyrus Centre (Abbotsford, B.C.): Drop-in centre and housing for street-involved and homeless youth. Also serves as a placement site for Lifeteams students.
Inner City Youth Alive (Winnipeg, MB): Drop-in and creative, long standing community based youth programs in Winnipeg’s North End. Working primarily with young First Nations people in one of Winnipeg’s poorest areas, this organization has been coming alongside youth and their families for decades. Some of their programs include a motosport program, a wilderness camp, workskills training, a drop-in, community outreach and a Christian school. Check out Poverty By Design – a challenging and informative video focused on the growth of poverty in Winnipeg’s North End.
Inner Hope (East Vancouver): Provides housing, support, mentorship and lifeskills for high risk youth, many of whom are Aboriginal.
The Dam (Mississauga, ON): Two relational drop-ins for youth and a teen mom’s support program.
Joe’s Place (Moose Jaw, SK): Providing a place to go and connections to healthy role models for youth.
Stepping Stones/Stepping Up (Youth Unlimited Surrey, BC): Activities, connections and an amazing lifeskills training course called Thrive for young moms, as well as an impactful support program for young dads.
U-Turn Supportive Living Homes (YFC Brandon, MB): Semi-independent homes for youth aged 15 to 19 providing a safe stable living environment and training for employability and independent living.
Work Life/Street Life/Creative Life (Youth Unlimited East Vancouver, B.C.): Three inspiring outreach based programs for street-involved youth in the core of Vancouver. Using a mobile drop-in, job training, and an arts based expression program, relationships are built and lives are changed.
Youth for Christ (across Canada): YFC/Youth Unlimited goes into the community as the church, to connect with young people who probably won’t find their way to a church building. Each chapter provides unique programs based on the needs of their community including youth centres, sports/rec program, teen mom’s programs, mentorship, alternate schools support work, skate clubs, programs for pre-teens, art programs and many more.
