We were not born with a natural skillset for active listening. It has to be learned and that takes intentionality and practice. It requires that we enter conversations with our expectations, hilarious stories, and cellphones set on silent. We wait our turn, we put effort into seeing things through their eyes, we hold back the quick answers and we risk not getting it right.
